Dovetail database administrator Fikile Maqelepo was one of the organisers of a Street Free Shopping event hosted on the 24th of December at the Salvation Army Kwa-Thema Corps.
“The purpose of this is to give the less fortunate the experience of shopping for clothes and accessories as they cannot afford to do this,” explains Maqelepo, adding that shoppers were in high spirits and very excited.
“Everything was for free. We put items together to make an outfit, placed matching shoes and accessories. The idea was for people to have something new and the feeling of shopping without paying.”
Refreshments such as juice, biscuits and fruits were handed out to the shoppers while they browsed.
